Our Story

The professionals that bring you AVA® today are staunch advocates of the tradition of Walter V. Clarke himself—which is focused on maintaining the integrity, validity, and reliability of the AVA® Behavioral Assessment System

An individuals personality impacts how they perform in their job.

AVA® Assessment Associates, Inc. (originally Walter V. Clarke Associates) was founded in 1948 by Clarke, an accomplished organizational psychologist and business executive. Capitalizing on the “self-consistency” theories developed by Prescott Lecky and Walter’s teacher and mentor, William Moulton Marston, Clarke developed an assessment that accurately measures individual behavioral tendencies and the application of those tendencies in the workplace.

AVA®, throughout the last 70 years, has remained focused on maintaining the validity and reliability of the AVA assessment and expanding its application in the workplace.  Today, the AVA® assessment is used by clients worldwide and is available in over 20 different languages.  The Company continues to provide both an in-depth assessment tool and training to our clients to thoroughly and accurately interpret and apply the assessment results in their organization.

One of the distinguishing features of AVA® is its emphasis on knowledge transfer. Unlike many assessment tools that rely on a third-party interpreter, AVA® provides our clients, through training, with the skills to provide a thorough interpretation of the AVA® assessment. This allows our client to immediately begin applying the results of the assessment upon completion by an individual.
